Partial Front vs. Full Front vs. Full Body PPF: Which Coverage Does Your Car Need?
Partial Front PPF protects the bumper, headlights, mirrors, and leading edges of the hood and fenders, Full Front PPF covers the entire hood and full front fenders with no film line across the hood, and Full Body PPF covers every painted surface. For most Inland Empire commuters, Full Front offers the best balance of protection and cost, while Full Body makes the most sense for luxury, performance, and vehicles you plan to keep for years. At Sundown Window Tint in Riverside, these packages start at $1,000, $1,850, and $5,500, and every one uses XPEL film warrantied for 10 years.
With paint protection film, the real decision is rarely whether you need it. It is how much of your car you want covered. The answer looks very different for someone commuting on the 91 every weekday than for someone who keeps a sports car in the garage, so this guide walks you through each option.
How PPF Coverage Levels Work
The film itself is only half the story. The other half is where the film stops, because that line determines which panels stay protected and how your car looks years from now. You can protect the bumper and leading edges, the entire front end, or every painted panel from roof to rear bumper. Each step up uses more film, adds more edges and seams, and requires more hours of careful hand fitting, which is why price and turnaround climb with every level of coverage.
What Each PPF Coverage Option Protects
Here is how our three main paint protection film packages compare side by side.
| Coverage | What It Protects | Starting Price | Turnaround | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Partial Front | Front bumper, partial hood, mirrors, partial front fenders, headlights, fog lights | $1,000 | 24 hours | City driving, leased vehicles, tighter budgets |
| Full Front | Front bumper, full hood, mirrors, full front fenders, headlights, fog lights | $1,850 | 2 days | Daily freeway commuters |
| Full Body (Full Coverage) | All painted vehicle surfaces | $5,500 | 5 to 7 days | Luxury, performance, and collector vehicles; outdoor parking |
Partial Front PPF
Our Partial Front package covers the front bumper, partial hood, mirrors, partial front fenders, headlights, and fog lights. These are the surfaces that catch the first hit of gravel, bug splatter, and debris on every drive, with a 24 hour turnaround.
Partial Front does not protect the upper hood, upper fenders, or any panel behind the front wheels, and the film ends partway up the hood, leaving an edge line in visible paint. For drivers who mostly stay on surface streets or want solid protection at the lowest entry price, that tradeoff is often acceptable.
Full Front PPF
Full Front extends coverage across the entire hood and both full front fenders, along with the front bumper, mirrors, headlights, and fog lights. At freeway speeds, debris does not just strike the bumper. It travels up the hood, chips the fenders, and pits the headlights. Full Front protects that whole zone as one continuous surface with no film line partway up the hood, and it takes about two days. For drivers who spend real time on the 91, the 60, the 215, or the 15, it is the practical choice.
Full Body PPF
Our Full Coverage package puts XPEL film on all painted vehicle surfaces, including the doors, quarter panels, roof, trunk, and rear bumper. Beyond rock chips, it guards every panel against UV exposure, bird droppings, tree sap, and light scratches, since contaminants land on the film instead of your clear coat. Full Body is the most complete protection we offer and takes five to seven days. It is the strongest fit for luxury, exotic, and collector vehicles and anything you plan to keep in showroom condition for years.
Cost, Installation Time, and Tradeoffs
The price of PPF is not only about square footage. Vehicle size, body line complexity, the finish you choose, and the condition of your paint all shift the final number. Deep vents, sensor clusters, and tight compound curves take longer to fit than flatter, simpler panels, even at the same coverage level.
Tesla owners have dedicated Tesla PPF packages starting at $1,000 for Partial Front, $1,750 for Full Front, and $5,000 for Full Coverage.
Installation time scales the same way. Full Coverage takes five to seven days because each panel is individually measured, cut, applied, and finished with careful attention to edges and seams. Rushing that work leads to lifted edges and trapped air.
The tradeoffs are straightforward. Partial Front saves the most upfront, but the panels it leaves exposed may need touchups or repainting later. Full Front costs $850 more at our starting prices but closes that gap across the entire front end. Full Body is the largest investment, yet it reduces the chance of paint repairs anywhere on the vehicle and helps preserve resale value. Our guide on PPF vs. repainting explains why protecting factory paint usually costs less than restoring it.
Choosing PPF Coverage for Your Vehicle and Driving
The right coverage starts with how you actually drive. Before you request a quote, think through four questions.
How much freeway driving do you do? If your routine is mostly city streets and a short commute, Partial Front handles the realistic risk. Once you are on the freeway daily behind gravel trucks, the entire front end becomes a target, and Full Front is built for that pattern.
Where does the vehicle park? A car parked outside under a tree in Moreno Valley or Corona deals with sap, bird droppings, and strong sun on every panel, not just the front. Outdoor parking is one of the strongest arguments for Full Body coverage.
How long will you keep it? For a leased vehicle or one you plan to trade in within a few years, Partial Front or Full Front usually makes the most financial sense. For a vehicle you plan to keep for years or sell privately, Full Body protects the finish buyers will judge.
What is the vehicle worth to you? On a luxury, performance, or collector car, even one chip on a door can be costly to repair properly. On a moderately priced daily driver, a full wrap may represent a large share of the vehicle's value, so front coverage is often the smarter call.
Film Finishes, Care, and Professional Installation
Coverage determines where you are protected, and the film determines how your vehicle looks. Our standard packages use clear, self-healing XPEL film designed to be nearly invisible, and minor surface scratches and blemishes fade with exposure to heat. If you want a different look, Stealth PPF uses XPEL Stealth film to give your vehicle a sleek matte finish with the same scratch and stain resistance as gloss PPF, starting at $5,500 for full vehicle coverage. Color Change PPF starts at $6,000 and changes your vehicle's color while protecting the factory paint underneath.
Care is simple. Wait at least one week after installation before hand washing so the film can cure properly. After that, routine hand washing, occasional inspection, and prompt removal of bird droppings and bug splatter keep the film looking its best. Pairing your film with ceramic coating makes maintenance even easier, and our guide to PPF maintenance mistakes covers what to avoid.
The installer matters as much as the package. Each PPF install at Sundown Window Tint starts with an inspection where we consider the unique shapes and surfaces of your vehicle, and our XPEL certified installers apply the film by hand to every included area. Our paint protection film is warrantied for 10 years against yellowing, delamination, cracking, peeling, bubbling, and more, and with proper care it can last up to ten years.

Frequently Asked Questions About PPF Coverage
What is the difference between partial front and full front PPF?
Partial Front covers the front bumper, partial hood, mirrors, partial front fenders, headlights, and fog lights. Full Front covers the same areas but extends to the entire hood and full front fenders, so there is no film line partway up the hood. At Sundown Window Tint, Partial Front starts at $1,000 and Full Front starts at $1,850.
Is full front PPF enough for most drivers?
For most daily drivers and commuters, yes. Full Front protects the panels that take most rock chips and road debris. Full Body becomes the better choice for luxury or collector vehicles, cars parked outdoors, and vehicles you plan to keep for many years.
Is full body PPF worth it?
Full Body PPF is worth it if you want every painted panel protected from chips, scratches, UV exposure, and contaminants, especially on luxury vehicles or cars you plan to keep for many years. At Sundown Window Tint, Full Coverage starts at $5,500.
Is partial front PPF worth it on a leased car?
Often, yes. Partial Front or Full Front protects the panels most likely to pick up chip damage before you return the vehicle, without the cost of a full wrap.
Can I upgrade from partial front to full body PPF later?
Yes. Because PPF is applied panel by panel, you can add coverage later. Keep in mind that film applied over existing chips seals in that damage, so earlier coverage protects more of your original paint.
Does matte PPF provide the same protection as clear PPF?
Yes. XPEL Stealth offers the same scratch and stain resistance as gloss PPF with a matte finish. At Sundown Window Tint, Stealth full vehicle coverage starts at $5,500, the same as clear Full Coverage.
